After Woody’s success in Western Europe, Beverage Brands first targeted Canada as being a prime market for RTD. With an affluent, brand-conscious, youthful population, the market represented a prime opportunity.
As the largest province, Ontario was the most obvious place to start. With alcohol distribution being controlled by the Liquor Board of Ontario, a government-controlled monopoly with their own unique packaging regulations and requirements, Beverage Brands appointed BAG as its agent to facilitate the listing of Woody's Pink Grapefruit in 1997. After overcoming the hurdles of meeting the LCBO's requirements, Beverage Brands started shipping its first containers of Pink Grapefruit that Spring. Pink Grapefruit was an immediate success.
Since obtaining the first listing in 1997, with a dedicated team of brand managers and sales representatives, BAG has assisted Beverage Brands to build on the initial success of the first listing over the years to create a portfolio that today includes three Woody's, three Woody's Ice and one WKD variant Beverage Brands is now the No.2 RTD manufacturer in Ontario and the No.1 imported RTD manufacturer. Retail sales in Ontario were worth C$33.7m in 2003 and, building on that success, Beverage Brands has also extended distribution of its brands into other Canadian provinces including Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, creating a total retail value for Canada of over C$37m.
